Seminars

The school organizes seminars led by experts active in various fields of culture. These seminars are directed towards those who have at least an intermediate knowledge of the language. The minimum number of participants in each group is five, and students interested in taking part in a particular seminar may reserve a place at the beginning of the course. The cost of the seminar is additional.

Italian Cooking Courses

For those who love Italian food, there are two types of cooking courses:

Professional Cooking Courses
Professional courses at a culinary school recognized by the Lazio Chefs’ Association. Three month courses begin in January, April and September.

Non-professional Cooking Courses
Theoretical-practical courses ranging from a few lessons to one or more weeks are offered at the home of the teacher. These courses are held year round, except in the month of August, and must be booked in advance. A complete course program is available on request.

TANDEM Service

A “Tandem” is composed of two native speakers of different  languages (Italian and another language) who are highly motivated to meet on a regular basis to improve their knowledge of the second language through an exchange of conversation. These meetings, in addition to providing for the application and practice of what has been learned in class, offer the opportunity to become better acquainted with Italian culture through personal contact. The Tandem service puts partners with reciprocal language interests in contact with each other. This service is offered free of charge to our students and can be requested at the beginning of each course.

Sample of a 2-week cultural program

WEEK 1
Sunday
Arrival in Rome and settling into accommodation. On confirmation of enrollment, each student will receive the complete address of his/her accommodation and detailed information on how to reach the accommodation from the airport or “Termini” central railway station. The owner of the accommodation will provide information on how to reach the school.

Monday
9:00 - Oral and written placement test to determine the student’s course level, formation of classes and commencement of lessons.

Presentation of Rome: Information on the city; what to do, where to go, what to see, what’s on, public transport and services. Each student will receive a guide to make their stay in Rome easier and more pleasant.

Tuesday
Dinner in a typical Roman trattoria together with the teachers.

Wednesday
Guided tour of the Roman Forums and the Colosseum)with our Art History expert.

Friday
The new Italian cinema. Presentation of a film and its director, followed by screening of the film.

Saturday
Excursion outside Rome, depending on the season possibilities include Florence, Orvieto, the Castelli Romani towns in the Alban hills, Tivoli, Ostia Antica, Naples, Bracciano Lake, the beach, and more.

WEEK 2
Sunday
Free Day. The school will provide students with details of cultural and sporting events currently being held in Rome. Excursion outside of Rome can be organized according to the season.

Monday
Cooking seminar in a private home. Together with our cooking teacher, students will prepare and enjoy a complete meal.

Tuesday
Talk: Italian singer-songwriters of the 1980s and 1990s. Performance by an Italian singer.

Wednesday
Guided tour of the Baroque in Rome, The Fountains with our Art History expert.

Thursday
Seminar : L’Aida. Introduction to the Italian Opera and to Verdi’s production.

Friday
Seminar: Marcello Mastroianni - an Italian actor – his life and work. Excerpts from his most famous movies will be shown and commented on by our cinema expert.

Saturday
Departure

Note: Students will be asked to pay a participation fee for excursions outside Rome, meals, some seminars, entrances to museums and other events.

Estate Romana
In the summer months, Rome hosts the celebrated “ESTATE ROMANA” arts festival, which offers numerous outdoor events such as concerts, dance, ballet, theatre, cinema, etc. During this period, the school organizes evenings with the teachers accompanying students to the various events. Participation in these cultural activities is free of charge.
