Students actively practice the four fundamental functions of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Particular attention, however, is given to conversation, to develop the students’ abilities to express themselves and communicate in Italian from the very beginning of the course.

Teaching materials include textbooks and related audiovisual material, as well as slides, video-cassettes, radio excerpts, newspaper and magazine articles, films, literary texts, songs, etc.

Before beginning their first course, students are given both oral and written tests to determine their current knowledge of the language and are subsequently placed in the appropriate level. At the end of each level students must pass a test in order to move up to the next.

Certificates and Diplomas
At the end of the course, successful students will receive a certificate of attendance indicating the level of course completed.

Students who have completed our levels 4 and 7 successfully will have the opportunity to take a written and oral exam to obtain a special Italian Language Diploma issued by the school. Students may register for the Diploma exam at an extra charge of 20 Euros.

The C.I.L.S. (Certificate in Italian as a Foreign Language) is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. C.I.L.S. examinations of the Siena University for foreign students are held twice a year, in December and June.
